The history of the 12 Step Program began in 1935 with the work of Bill Wilson and Dr. Robert Holbrook Smith or perhaps better known as “Bill W” and “Dr. Bob.” It was through their leadership that AA took its roots in Akron, Ohio and became the prototype for the future for all recovery programs that exists today.
